TRIATHLON SAINT GILLES CROIX DE VIE

I'd been waiting impatiently to be able to run at home ever since the last race and my withdrawal. It's been a complicated week, with a virus bothering me and preventing me from preparing properly. The day before, I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to take the start...

On Sunday, I was feeling a bit better, so I couldn't not try!

The weather was quite wet with almost continuous rain all day, and a heavy sea accompanied by a light steady westerly wind. I took the start, lining up close to Hugo Le Doeuff, one of the best swimmers in the region. I tried to keep up with him but was pushed off the course by a competitor, so I quickly lost his feet. I felt pretty good despite a few cups of salt water! At the end of the first lap I see that I'm in 2nd place, around twenty seconds behind Hugo, and a few competitors are following me. On the second lap, I continued my effort and came out 2nd at nearly 45’.

Right from the start of the bike I felt good and set off strongly on these roads that I know by heart. A few kilometres later I was only a hundred metres behind Hugo but I attacked too hard at a roundabout and crashed! I was a bit stunned and at that moment I thought about stopping... But Mathias Gourgue encouraged me to get going again, so I set off again with my body a little sore - nearly a minute lost!

I set off on the run about thirty seconds behind Hugo. There are 4 laps to go. I see that I'm coming back on the 2nd lap and I take the lead, but I'm not feeling very well and I can't make the gap... I try to accelerate but I can't, Hugo passes me on the line in the same second... I had to bow out.

Despite the disappointment, I'm still satisfied with second place. But the form is there, which bodes well for Challenge Vieux Boucau in a month's time!
