IRON MAN 70.3 DES SABLES D’OLONNE
The IronMan 70.3 in Les Sables d'Olonne was one of my main objectives for the season. The race lived up to my expectations and it was a real pleasure to race almost at home. I came 1st in the amateur category and 28th overall in 4h01, right up there with the professionals. This IronMan was supported by the ProSerie, so it was even more satisfying to see the start list!
Swimming: I started on the beach and swam in the Vendée Globe channel. The current was quite strong and I was surprised when I got out of the water to see a time of 22'33!
Cycling: Once again, I set off on my training pace, which was tough because the conditions were difficult: wind, rain, storm... I still managed a good time of 2:16:16.
Run: After a quick transition, I try to find out where I stand. I'm in 2nd place, but a long way behind the leader, who's about 3' ahead! Once again, I'm on my pace and feeling pretty good. Little by little I saw that I was coming back and with around 1km to go I took 1st place!
It was a great race, which is good for morale after the French Championships. This start to the season is very reassuring and validates a lot of things, which means I can look forward to the end of the season with peace of mind :)
I could have taken my slot for the 70.3 World Championships in New Zealand, but on reflection I prefer to leave it for a number of reasons.
